Some 2,200 cyclists were pedaling through the Cache Valley Saturday and Sunday to raise funds for multiple sclerosis.

The 28th annual Bike MS: Harmons Best Dam Bike Ride began Saturday morning in Logan and resumes Sunday. Last year, the riders raised more than $1.5 million by securing their own sponsorships, according to a press release.

Besides research, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Utah-Southern Idaho Chapter uses the money to support local services for Utah and Idaho residents.

"Bike MS is about more than logging miles on a bike, it's an unforgettable way to make a difference for those who have multiple sclerosis," said Becky Lyttle, vice president of community development for the chapter said, according to the release.

Participants are riding 40, 75 or 100 miles with an option of riding 20 or 50 more miles on Sunday.

Multiple sclerosis is an often disabling disease of the central nervous system, and interrupts the flow of information within the brain and between the brain and the body.
