Emery County sheriff's deputies responding to a domestic violence complaint Sunday afternoon ended up arresting a man for shooting and wounding his wife just outside their Huntington home.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Janalee Luke said they were called to the southcentral Utah residence at 4:17 p.m. Sunday and found the woman, suffering from a single gunshot wound.

She was in critical condition Monday at an unspecified hospital, where she had undergone surgery overnight and was expected to have more, Luke said.

Authorities did not immediately detail the woman's injuries, nor did they release her name or age.

Arrested at the scene without further incident was 36 year-old Chad Robert Snyder.

Snyder was being held without bail Monday in the Emery County Jail, awaiting charges.
