Cops seek suspect in brazen bid to kidnap woman in west Salt Lake City

Police were searching Tuesday for a suspect in a brazen attempt to abduct a woman in broad daylight from a west Salt Lake City street.

Police said the incident occurred when the suspect — a Latino man in his 30s, of average height, heavy build, a shaved head and wearing a green polo-type shirt — drove up behind the 20-year-old woman, who had just gotten off a bus about 5:30 p.m. Monday.

Near 1300 South and Navajo Street (1350 West), the suspect pulled a handgun and forced her into his car. However, as he walked around to the driver's side, the woman saw her chance and bolted.

The woman told Fox 13 News that she had managed to get her pepper spray out of her purse and spray him as she made her escape. The suspect drove away in a car described as a small, bright blue four-door; the woman, who lived nearby, called 911 on her cellphone.

Police were unable to locate the suspect vehicle and on Tuesday asked for public help in locating the would-be kidnapper.
