Black Crook Creek fire contained; crews watch for more blazes

Firefighters have completely contained a 438-acre, lightning-caused blaze in Tooele County's Sheeprock Mountains. Now, they warily watch the horizons for signs of fresh smoke.

The Black Crook Creek Fire blackened tinder-dry swaths of grass, sagebrush, pinyon and juniper since being sparked during a thunderstorm on June 29. No structures were lost and no injuries were reported, according to Fire Information Officer Loyal Clark.

The fire was declared 100 percent contained about 6 p.m. Monday.

However, low humidity and rising temperatures the remainder of this holiday week — near 100 in northern Utah and well into the triple digits in the southern reaches of the state — had firefighters on alert.

Clark reminded Utahns that fireworks of any kind are prohibited on all national forest and federal lands.
