A motorcyclist suffered life-threatening injuries Wednesday afternoon after rear-ending a vehicle on Interstate 15 in Salt Lake City.

Because of a prior crash, traffic on southbound Interstate 15 had about come to a stop near 500 North, said Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce. The motorcyclist, a man about 50 years old, did not slow quickly enough and rear-ended the other vehicle about 1 p.m., Royce said.

He was thrown from the motorcycle and, despite wearing a helmet, was critically injured. Royce corrected earlier reports that the man had died, saying he was taken to a hospital.
