The Utah Museum of Fine Arts has received a big national honor and with it a big chunk of money.
UMFA has been awarded a two-year grant, worth $80,000, from the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. The grant is to support UMFA's contemporary art series, called salt (yes, in lowercase, like k.d. lang or e.e. cummings that's how you know it's art).
The grant will support salt exhibitions 11 through 14, which will be on display in the spring and fall of 2015 and 2016.
"salt at its core is a generator of new artistic work and scholarly thought, and we're ecstatic that such a renowned and forward-thinking institution recognizes the program's importance to artists, audiences, and scholars both locally and globally," UMFA Executive Director Gretchen Dietrich said in a statement.
The salt series began in 2010, and is now run by Whitney Tassie, UMFA's curator of modern and contemporary art, and has a permanent gallery at the museum.
UMFA is one of 44 arts organizations nationwide to receive the Warhol grants, totalling $3.65 million.
