An 8-year-old boy playing with a lighter started a fire at a Clinton home Thursday, officials said.

A call about the blaze came in at 2:18 p.m., and firefighters arrived within four minutes, Clinton Deputy Fire Chief Justin Benavides said. Smoke was coming from the basement, he added, and heavy flames from the back of the house.

Firefighters and officers from other agencies, including Sunset and the Davis County Sheriff's Office, also responded.

The fire caused an estimated $70,000 to $75,000 in damage, mostly in the basement and lower level of the house. There were no injuries.

The American Red Cross is assisting the family, Benavides said.
