Vernal police confirmed Monday that they are investigating a Fourth of July incident in which lit fireworks exploded within a crowd, causing minor injuries to two adults and a child.

Assistant Police Chief Keith Campbell said officers were looking into whether fireworks were deliberately tossed or fired into a group of people celebrating at Vernal City Park.

The injured were treated at the scene by medical personnel and released.

Police ask anyone with information on those responsible to call VPD at 435-789-4222.
