Police went to investigate an accidental weekend shooting in Salt Lake City's Capitol Hill area only to find a cache of drugs, cash and multiple firearms.

The 911 call reporting the shooting came in at 6:43 p.m. Friday. A 19-year-old man told officers he was cleaning his handgun when it went off. The bullet struck his girlfriend in the leg.

Police said evidence at the scene supported that account. However, it was other evidence that ended up putting the man in Salt Lake County Jail.

Allegedly in plain sight was a small quantity of heroin. Officers obtained a search warrant to search the home more thoroughly and also found cocaine, drug paraphernalia, an unspecified but "large" amount of cash, and three additional firearms.

The wounded female was taken to a hospital for treatment of her non-life threatening wound.

Her boyfriend remained in jail Monday on suspicion of possessing control substances, possession of firearms by a restricted person and reckless endangerment.
