• Percussionist and singer Sheila E. performs at Sandy Amphitheater, 9400 S. 1300 East, Sandy. The show is the kickoff concert of the Salt Lake City International Jazz Festival (which happens Friday and Saturday at Gallivan Center). Show starts at 7. Tickets, from $20 to $40, at Smith's Tix.

• Wisconsin-based indie-pop band Phox is touring in support of its recent self-titled debut, at The State Room, 638 S. State St., Salt Lake City. Opening act: Trails & Ways. Show starts at 8. Tickets are $12, at the venue's website.
