Utah forecast: Hot days and some relief with evening rain showers

Sweating northern Utahns won't escape the summer heat heading toward the midweek, but there will be moments of wet respite.

The National Weather Service predicted scattered rain showers Wednesday morning and afternoon will cool the roasting necks of Wasatch Front denizens as they huff through near triple-digit temperatures. That forecast came in the wake of late evening thunderstorms on Tuesday, another near 100-degree day.

Southern Utahns expected a similar cycle of 100-degree days with scattered storms and precipitation in the late hours, along with breezes of 10-20 mph.

The Utah Division of Air Quality predicted "yellow," or compromised air quality statewide, with the exception of Cache, Carbon, Duchesne and Washington counties, which were "green," offering healthy breathing conditions.

The Intermountain Allergy & Asthma website listed only mold at "high" on its pollen index, while other allergens were graded as "low" on Tuesday.
