A man and woman were in critical condition Wednesday, the day after their motorcycle crashed into a van in Midvale.

The accident was reported at 10:50 p.m. Tuesday, near 900 East and Fort Union Boulevard (7100 South).

Unified Police Sgt. Ken Hansen said the motorcycle was eastbound on Fort Union Boulevard when the blue Toyota van began making a left turn. The motorcycle was unable to stop in time to avoid slamming into the vehicle.

The identities of the man and woman were not immediately released, as family members were still being notified. However, Hansen said both victims were in their late-20s to early-30s; the woman, in very critical condition, was on life support.

The male also was in critical condition and undergoing surgery to repair massive leg injuries.

Neither of the victims was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, Hansen said.

The accident was under investigation, but speed was not believed a factor. Results of alcohol blood testing were pending.
