After selling houses for over a decade, Gary Larson decided it wasn't enough to just put people into new homes; he also wanted to have a say in designing them. That way, he knew exactly what he was selling, and could guarantee his customers quality homes at affordable prices.

It's with this concept that he founded Farside Construction Inc. in 1995, building, remodeling and selling homes in Salt Lake County.

"We pretty much promise a custom home at a very reasonable and competitive price," Larson said. "I'm not the least expensive, but I deliver an excellent product for the cost, and I know I can save my customers thousands of dollars."

Farside homes range in price from $200,000 to $1 Million, but most tend to be in the $550,000 to $800,000 price range.

Clients are guaranteed only the best quality, custom materials Larson said. These include hardwood floors, tile and travertine instead of linoleum; granite and quartz countertops instead of Formica and laminate; and high end plumbing and lighting fixtures from specialist stores instead of basic fixtures from your average DIY stores.

"We don't cut any corners," Larson said. "Our sub contractors are all licensed, bonded and insured. They are highly qualified and their work is top notch. They're not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for," he said. "And we make sure the quality is there so that our customers can be proud of what they are living in."

In addition to being proud of "what" they live in, Farside homeowners can also be proud of where they live. It's no secret that the state of Utah provides some of the most spectacular views in the country, and Larson says his homes certainly lend credence to the tagline "a room with a view". Most of the subdivisions he's built have great mountain views and within 25 minutes, homeowners can be in the canyons for wintertime skiing and summertime hiking.

Some of the locations prospective homeowners can choose from include the Villas Holladay, a gated community where one custom home is still available; Aspen Meadows – also a gated community – where three twin style town homes remain, and The Enclave, which is now being built at East Mill Creek. The Enclave is scheduled for a 2016 completion and of the 24 new, custom, upscale homes being built there, eight have already been sold.

With over 1,000 real estate transactions under his belt, and over 100 homes built under his watch, Larson promises clients a pleasurable, stress free experience.

"Gary works well with people," business partner Buzz Woods said. "When you're building a house, it can be stressful for all involved, but he is easygoing and if there are any mistakes made along the way, he will make sure they are corrected. He's really good with people. It's something our customers often remark on."

Larson has spent his entire life in Utah, and at 58, he has no plans of hanging up his construction hat any time soon. He's proud of the contribution he's made toward shaping the look of Utah, and to giving his customers homes they can enjoy for years to come.

"I'm going to keep on building for as long as God gives me strength to do so," Larson said. "I want to make sure that everyone who choses a Farside home falls completely in love with it, and that it's a space they look forward to coming home to."
