Minor league baseball: Tacoma Rainiers 18, Bees 2

The jinx may have been successful, but nothing else favored the Bees. They lost 18-2 to the Tacoma Rainiers on Thursday night at Smith's Ballpark.

Everyone knows about the superstitious culture of the sport. @SaltLakeBees tweeted: @RainiersLand have a no-hitter going through 5. #EnjoyTheJinx.

Moments later a burst of relief emerged at the bottom of sixth — J.B Shuck singled to end the Rainiers' run for a no-hitter.

Then came a tweet, "J.B. Shuck gets a base knock to break up the no-no. #jinxworked #sorrynotsorry

Still down nine runs, the Bees tried to climb back into the game in the sixth inning. The Bees managed to get three men on base as Luis Jimenez walked, but tallied no runs.

Showing very small glimpse of hope, the Bees never rallied back after a hot start. The Rainiers slammed 20 hits against the Bees 2.

Nearly every element of the game seemed to be against the Bees: the wind, the rain and the lights.

The wind whistled and the rain poured down heavily throughout the game, not to mention the game was delayed 18 minutes in the third inning as the field lights shut off.

The Rainiers started off hot. Abraham Almonte scored on a sacrifice fly out by Stephen Romero. Jesus Montero doubled, and Ty Kelly scored to put the Rainiers up 2-0.

Kelly slammed a triple homer to left field as John Hicks and Almonte scored. Chris Taylor hit a triple as Justin Smoak scored. The Rainiers took a commanding 6-0 lead.

The Bees had a small sight of hope in the sixth, but no one crossed home plate. The slug fest continued the Rainiers tallied 8 runs in the last two innings.

The Rainiers walked four Bees' as they counted two runs late in the final inning en route to a devastating 18-2.
