Police arrested a man late Sunday night after a standoff at a South Salt Lake apartment complex.

Public safety dispatchers received a 911 call at 7:06 p.m. reporting the 33-year-old suspect had allegedly held a firearm to the head of his girlfriend during an argument. The 41-year-old woman fled the apartment and reportedly called police.

South Salt Lake officers arrived at the unit, near 3440 South and 200 East, and a standoff of about two and a half hours ensued when the suspect refused to surrender.

No shots were fired and the man was taken into custody shortly before 11 p.m., after negotiators reportedly talked him into surrendering.

Police spokesman Gary Keller said the weapon allegedly held to the woman's head may have been a BB pistol, which was recovered at the scene.

The suspect was booked into Salt Lake County Jail on suspicion of third-degree felony domestic aggravated assault and class B misdemeanor making terrorist threats.
