Flash flooding hits southern Utah | The Salt Lake Tribune

Heavy rains caused multiple flash floods Monday throughout southern and central Utah.

As of 8 p.m. widespread flooding on rural roads was occuring in Beaver and Iron counties, the National Weather Service reported. On the other side of the state, floods also washed over Nine Mile Canyon Road in Duchesne County, depositing debris and blocking traffic, NWS said. Flooding also occurred in Panguitch, where almost 1.4 inch fell in a short but intense spell Monday afternoon; about 6 miles to the west, State Road 12 was covered with 4 feet of debris, NWS reported.

Late Monday afternoon flooding also was reported in Red Canyon on State Road 12 near Bryce Canyon National Park, along Birch Creek and other drainages in Zion National Park, and in Capitol Reef National Park's Pleasant Creek. Pine Creek flooded near the Escalante River in Garfield County

More than 2 inches fell over the headwaters of Kanab Creek drainage and threatened floods Monday afternoon, but by evening the waters had leveled off and no longer posed a risk, NWS reported.
