A series of thunderstorms and showers will to take the edge of northern Utah's heat heading toward the weekend.

After topping triple digits early this week, the Wasatch Front looked for daytime highs in the low- to mid-90s on Thursday and Friday. Afternoon and evening precipitation was expected both days.

However, despite their own series of thunderstorms, southern Utahns braced for more sizzling temperatures with highs forecast to top 100 degrees Thursday and Friday.

Salt Lake, Davis, Weber and Utah counties were rated "yellow," or compromised, by the Utah Division of Air Quality. Box Elder, Cache, Tooele, Washington, Carbon and Duchesne counties all earned "green" or healthy status heading into the weekend.

The Intermountain Allergy & Asthma website listed only mold at "high" on its pollen index, while grass was "moderate" and all other allergens "low" on Wednesday.
