A pedestrian died Saturday night when a motorcycle struck him in Capitol Reef National Park.

Christopher Gillette, 35, of Bountiful, was walking east on State Road 24 about 6 miles east of Torrey when a motorcycle, also eastbound struck him from behind, said Utah Highway Patrol trooper Lawrence Hopper.

Gillette was wearing a headlamp but was facing away from the motorcyclist, who did not see Gillette in the darkness, Hopper said.

Gillette died at the scene. The motorcyclist, 26, suffered head trauma and other injuries. He was flown to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center.
