There are so few canyons in Utah that I can enjoy with my dogs that I would like to take advantage of the areas where they are allowed. Millcreek Canyon is so full of dog poop that we thought we would try Neff's Canyon.
Just arrived and standing by our car, there was already one woman starting the trail with her two large dogs and no leash. At the trail head, a woman came by struggling with nine to 12 large dogs. Two were off leash and immediately came and pounced on our small dogs.
She apologized and went past us, where she immediately let most the other dogs off their leashes. That woman was barely gone when a woman got out of her car, took her two large dogs off leashes and let them loose. Again, they immediately ran at us and our dogs.
I told her there was a leash law and could she please put her dogs on leashes. She refused and said she would keep them away from us.
All of these people insist they can control their dogs. If they could, their dog would never have approached us or jumped on my dogs. Why do they believe the laws don't apply to them?
There are plenty of dog parks in the canyon they can go to and let their dogs off leash. Within 5 minutes of arriving, there were over a dozen loose dogs in the canyon. We immediately turned and left without being able to hike.
