NBA notes: Jimmer Fredette heading to Pelicans

The New Orleans Pelicans have agreed to contract terms with former BYU guard Jimmer Fredette, people familiar with the move said Friday.

Two people confirmed Fredette's deal to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the transaction had not been announced. One person said Fredette's contract would be for one season but did not discuss financial terms.

The acquisition provides the Pelicans a perimeter shooter they needed after Anthony Morrow's departure for Oklahoma City.

The 6-foot-2 Fredette averaged 5.6 points in 49 games last season with Sacramento and Chicago, but shot nearly 48 percent from 3-point range. A former NCAA national player of the year with BYU, Fredette was picked 10th overall by Sacramento in 2011.

Stephenson hopes to change his image

Lance Stephenson doesn't want to be known as the guy who blew in LeBron James' ear.

Stephenson said during his introductory news conference Friday in Charlotte he's "a little upset" that the ear-blowing incident in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference finals is how some have defined him.

"I feel like it overshadowed my play on the court," Stephenson said. "I bring more to the table than just blowing in someone's ear. I'm a great player."

The Hornets signed Stephenson to a three-year, $27 million contract. The 23-year-old led the NBA last year with five triple-doubles and posted career highs in points (13.6), rebounds (6.9) and assists (4.2).

LeBron mulling jersey number

LeBron James has to make another big decision. The NBA superstar turned to social media Friday to help him choose which number he'll wear next season with the Cavaliers. James wrote "6 or 23...." on his Twitter account and posted photos on Instagram of him wearing No. 6 and No. 23 wine and gold Cavs jerseys.

James wore No. 6 during his four seasons with Miami and No. 23 in high school and during seven seasons in Cleveland.
