Semis collide, close down Highway 6 in Spanish Fork Canyon

Highway 6 in Spanish Fork Canyon was restricted to one lane of traffic for most of the day Monday after a multi-vehicle accident left a semi-trailer rig on its side, and a load of french fries on the asphalt.

Spanish Fork police Lt. Matt Johnson said a series of accidents began when a passenger car attempted to enter the highway at 10:36 a.m. from Powerhouse Road, near the mouth of the canyon.

The semi hauling the potatoes attempted to avoid collision, clipping the car's front end, but the big rig was then struck by a second semi and ended up rolling over.

A passenger in the second semi suffered a cut on the arm which was treated at a local hospital. No other injuries were reported.

Cleanup of the fries and wreckage restricted traffic through the area to a single lane throughout the day.

The cause of the accident remained under investigation.
