The replacement of corporate campaign financing with public campaign financing that I've always dreamed of has been given birth here in Utah.

Gov. Herbert, Attorney General Reyes and our legislators are appealing to every court in the land regarding the granting of civil rights to same-sex couples, the possibility of securing federally held lands, and providing Medicaid for eligible Utahns. They are aware their chances of altering decisions made in each of these cases is slim at best.

So why do they persist? Because to give up would surely mean alienating their base and losing their jobs in the next election. The result, in essence, is the use of our taxes as campaign donations.
