Utah Jazz make Trevor Booker's deal official

In his first three seasons in the NBA, Trevor Booker dealt with the frustration and disappointment of defeat in Washington, where the Wizards couldn't break the 30-win mark.

Last season, however, things clicked for a young and talented Washington squad that picked up 44 wins and ended a five-year playoff drought.

Now Booker wants his new team to taste that success too.

"I want to try to help this organization get to the same level," the forward said.

On Monday, Booker put pen to paper, making his two-year deal with the Utah Jazz official.

After adding the shooting of veteran big man Steve Novak, the Jazz wanted to add toughness to the position too. They found it in Booker, a 6-foot-8 forward who had a key role in the Washington Wizards' playoff run last season.

The four-year veteran averaged 6.8 points and 5.3 rebounds a game last season in Washington, filling in as a starter when big man Nene went down with an injury. Booker led the Wizards in field-goal percentage (55.1 percent) and grabbed a career-high 379 total rebounds last season.

"The bigger thing they want me to bring is energy," he said.

Booker, drafted with the 23rd pick in the 2010 draft out of Clemson, said he had offers from four other teams.

But an endorsement from his friend and former Jazzman Josh Howard, combined with an intriguing mix of young talent, helped Booker settle on the Jazz.

"This one sounded the best for me," he said. "I've been on a young team. I know what it takes to make the playoffs."

Utah does not release financial terms, but according to a source, the deal is worth $10 million over two years with the second year of the contract not fully guaranteed.

"I'm very excited," Booker said. "I met with coach [Quin] Snyder and management. Everything seemed great right off the bat. I like the direction and really think I can come in and help out."
