Two Salt Lake County men have been charged with the murder of a man who was shot to death last month inside a car in a South Salt Lake alley.

In court documents filed Monday, police wrote that Irving Nunez, 20, of Kearns, and 19-year-old Ernesto Navarro, of West Valley City, were riding in a Mazda passenger car with two other men June 23 when they got in a dispute with the occupants of a silver Chevy Avalanche. Police did not describe the dispute, but passengers in the Avalanche said the people in the Mazda were flashing gang signs.

The group in the Mazda drove to Navarro's apartment, where Navarro and Nunez got their handguns, police wrote. The four men walked to an alley near 100 East Helm Ave., where they found the Avalanche. Navarro and Nunez fired multiple shots, killing 40-year-old Francisco Antonio Colon and wounding a 17-year-old in the Avalanche, police wrote. Navarro and Nunez were charged with first-degree felony murder, first-degree felony obstructing justice, and multiple firearms charges.
