Lafayette, La. • Police say a 30-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a July 16 bomb threat that closed the University of Louisiana-Lafayette.
At a news conference Tuesday, Lafayette police and FBI agents identified the suspect as Devin Haywood of Lafayette.
Police Sgt. Randal Leger (lay-zhay) says Haywood also was booked with trying to rob a bank before it opened the day of the bomb threat. Authorities say more arrests are possible.
Investigators say a man had called KATC-TV and police, saying a bomb was in a trash can at a park next to the university.
Police say a package found in the can turned out to be a fake bomb.
The university canceled classes for about 5,500 students while investigators from several agencies searched the park and campus.
