Lehi • While Utah's high school football teams are busily preparing for their upcoming seasons, so are cross-country runners who often get up early in the day to beat the heat as they train for the upcoming season.
Lehi staged a small media luncheon recently for some of its fall sports, and Pioneers cross-country coach Jamie Alviso was nice enough to talk about top returning runners Maddu Kauffman, Emily Anderson, Thomas Heaps, Conner Arnell and Sean Haggart.
Like many of the top cross-country teams in Utah, the Pioneers will be participating in some major invitationals.
These include the Aug. 16 Premier Invite in Tooele's Settlement Canyon; the Aug. 23 Wasatch Invite at Soldier Hollow; the American Fork Grass Relays on Aug. 30; the Timpview Invite on Sept. 6; the BYU Autumn Classic on Sept. 13; the Bob Firman Invite in Boise on Sept. 27, and the Park City Invite on Oct. 3. The state cross-country meets for boys and girls are scheduled Oct. 22 at Sugar House Park.
Last season, American Fork, Orem, Desert Hills, Rowland Hall and Monticello captured boys' cross-country title,s while Davis, Ogden, Park City, North Summit and Panguitch earned girls' championships.
