In response to Rabbi Ilana Schwartzman's op-ed ("What's in a cartoon? Tribune should know better," July 26):

Prime Minister Netanyahu often compares the attacks against Israel to hypothetical attacks against the United States. If the Prime Minister's comparison is valid, then the comparison between Gaza and a hypothetical occupation of the Salt Lake Valley might be similarly valid.

Although a better understanding of the conflict is needed, both the Prime Minister's and Pat Bagley's analogies intend to help us understand the feelings of those under attack, not to detail the sources of the whole human tragedy. Empathy for both sides of the conflict is also necessary for peace.
