Boston • Passengers on a whale watch boat are back on dry land after spending a long night stuck at sea about 15 miles off Massachusetts.

The vessel docked in Boston shortly before 8 a.m. Tuesday, more than 17 hours after leaving on what was supposed to be a three-hour voyage.

The Coast Guard says the boat got snagged by a cable used to moor large vessels. After initial attempts failed, divers cut the cable Tuesday.

No injuries were reported, but Ken Maguire, a passenger who was on the whale watch with his wife and two daughters, says many passengers became seasick during the long wait.

The ordeal was an adventure for 8-year-old Colter Bawden, of Newmarket, Ontario, who says he had never spent the night at sea before.
