Is it time to think about Christmas already? It is if you're a major department store, or an artist who wants to create a classic display for one.

The Macy's City Creek store, at 21 S. Main in downtown Salt Lake City, is again putting the call out to artists to create the store's holiday candy windows — a tradition that dates back to when the Macy's there was a ZCMI store.

Macy's will chose six artists to create a window display that evokes Salt Lake City and is made entirely of candy. This year, the theme calls on artists to create an oversized holiday ornament — on a 42-inch Styrofoam ball suspended 30 inches above the ground.

Artists should submit a rendering and brief description of the design, along with a description of the artist's background and why they want to be involved in the project. The six selected artists will be on site, Oct. 20 to Nov. 20, to install their works. The exhibit goes on display Nov. 20 to Dec. 25.

Submissions should be made to Chad Young, visual manager for the Macy's store, by email: chad.young@macys.com. Deadline is Aug. 31.
