Utah forecast: Hot and humid, then sticky and scorching

Utah's forecast as the work week draws to a close? Hot and humid, followed by scorching and sultry. Or is it sizzling and muggy before it turns sticky and scorching?

Keep it simple, then. Sum up Utah's weather Thursday and Friday as a Yogi Berra forecast: "It's déjà vu all over again."

Along the Wasatch Front, Friday will see temperatures around 90 degrees, up a degree or two from Thursday. Both days will endure cycles of thunderstorms and rain showers, keeping relative humidity ­— which the National Weather Service reported ranged from 60-85 percent at various times — far higher than normal (generally in the teens this time of year) for the nation's second-most arid state.

It's the same prediction for southern Utah, except hotter: daytime highs will simmer near triple digits on Friday, again a degree or two hotter than Thursday's forecast for the region.

The Utah Division of Air Quality rated Salt Lake, Weber, Davis and Utah counties as "yellow," or compromised for air quality going into Friday and the weekend. The rest of the state earned "green", or healthy breathing grades.

The Intermountain Allergy & Asthma website listed only mold at "high," while other allergens were deemed "low" on the pollen index as of Thursday.
