At 6'5, walk-on Utes WR Tim Patrick will provide a big downfield target

As many as nine new wideouts will join the Utes this fall, and here's a prediction: Tim Patrick will be head and shoulders above the rest.

That is, his head and shoulders will be above the others' heads and shoulders.

The walk-on from Grossmont College near San Diego was listed by his former college at 6-foot-5, 195 pounds, and shortly after arriving in Salt Lake City on Saturday night he likened his style of play to that of NFL legend Randy Moss.

"I make a lot of big plays, but I can also go across the middle," Patrick said.

Patrick said Utah coaches watched him catch eight passes for 199 yards and a touchdown against Fullerton and then attended a Griffins practice in late spring*. Patrick finished the 2013 season with 964 yards and eight touchdowns (see tape here), and was named to all-conference teams for both football and basketball.

Patrick says he hasn't ruled out playing basketball at the U. if they'd take him. As a small forward last year he averaged 9.8 points and 5.7 rebounds per game and shot 65.5 percent from the field, according to the California Community College Athletic Association website.

He'll have two years to play two, he says, and he's still weighing possible majors.

His first impression of Salt Lake is a positive one:

"I love it," he said. "It feels like home here."

* Grossmont has a Utah connection in Cyrus Satoafaiga, a former Ute linebacker who now coaches Griffin linebackers.
