EDITOR'S NOTE • This is one in a series of previews of Utah's high school football programs. They will run throughout the summer leading up to the 2014 regular season, which begins Aug. 21.

San Juan Broncos

The San Juan Broncos had to watch last season as rival Grand County won region and marched to the Class 2A title game.

Armed with a number of returning starters this year, San Juan is looking for a turnaround.

"When you have a struggling season, you always want to turn around and win those bragging rights back," Broncos coach Monty Lee said. "But we feel that we're never satisfied wherever we are. We're always trying to improve, be a little bit better tomorrow than we were today. We hope to get back there. We hope to be playing on the last day of the season."

San Juan running back Max Morley got more than a taste of action last season and he'll be relied upon heavily this year.

Junior quarterback Peyton Palmer should be more seasoned too after being installed as the starter midway through his sophomore campaign.

"We had to take it slow so he could get the confidence elf his teammates around him," Lee said. "He's done that with his work ethic."

Last year • 6-5

Key returner • Running back Max Morley rushed for more than 400 yards last season and will have a heavier load this season.

Player to watch • Junior quarterback Peyton Palmer has earned his teammates' trust and respect and looks to build on his experience as a sophomore.

Biggest hole • Depth on the line could be an issue, but Lee and the Broncos are trying to address it by converting a few players used last year as running backs.

Need to know • Bronz Eldridge will be another key Bronco weapon in both the running and receiving game.
