Letter: Bundy breaks 'Articles of Faith,' goes unpunished

It seems ironic that Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy, purported to be a Mormon, is bragging about defying federal and state laws in his armed standoff with law enforcement officials over his grazing dispute ("Cliven Bundy to St. George gathering: Fed standoff was spiritual battle," August 4). Yet it seems he is disobeying one of the tenants of his own faith, namely Article 12 of the LDS "Articles of Faith," that states: "We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law."

Yet we hear no mention from LDS authorities calling for Bundy's excommunication, but when people from the "Ordain Women" movement express their opinions regarding women getting the LDS Priesthood they may find themselves summarily disciplined and even excommunicated. How hypocritical of the LDS authorities: Lawbreaking is OK; expressing opinions is not.
