SLCPD: Quick punch, quicker feet save robbery victim

Police say a west Salt Lake City man escaped two armed robbers thanks to possessing a quick punch — and even quicker feet.

The 28-year-old man told police that he was walking near 400 W. 100 South about 3 p.m. Wednesday when two Latinos approached him. When one began speaking in Spanish, the victim asked him to switch English.

When the suspect responded by pulling out a weapon — which SLCPD, citing the ongoing nature of its investigation, would not further detail — the victim punched him in the face and ran.

Unfortunately, as the victim fled he dropped and lost to the suspects a phone case that also contained his cash, I.D. and credit cards.

As a witness called 911, the suspects ran, too.

Police are looking for two 5-foot-8 male adult males in their early 20s, 130-140 pounds; one was wearing a black shirt and pants and a gray baseball cap with a black brim; the other was clad in a red and black shirt, light blue jeans and carrying a red and black backpack.
