Tennis • Roger Federer beat Andy Murray 6-3, 7-5 on Friday night and advanced to the semifinals of the Western & Southern Open in Mason, Ohio.

The Swiss star has won the Masters event an unprecedented five times already. He'll face Canada's Milos Raonic.

Federer and Murray have won 11 matches apiece in their career series, with Federer also winning in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open this year.

Serena Williams also reached the semifinals in a tournament she has never won, needing only 58 minutes to beat Jelena Jankovic on Friday. She'll face Caroline Wozniacki, who reached the semifinals for the first time by beating Agnieszka Radwanska.

NASCAR adds rule regarding crashes

Auto racing • NASCAR added a rule Friday ordering drivers to not approach the track or moving cars after accidents. The announcement comes less than a week after a driver was struck and killed during a dirt-track race in New York.

If a car is involved in an accident and can no longer keep going — and no extenuating circumstances exist such as smoke in the cockpit or fire — the driver should not loosen any personal safety equipment until directed to do so by safety personnel or an official.
