Lopez powers Bees' win in Iowa

The Salt Lake Bees started strong in the opener of their four-game series against the host Iowa Cubs, winning 5-3 on Saturday night.

The Cubs scored two in the first inning, but the Bees responded with all five of their runs in the next two innings. Iowa's comeback attempt in the sixth inning fell short.

Roberto Lopez was the star of the show for Salt Lake, going 2 for 3 with a home run and four RBIs. Overall, Salt Lake outhit Iowa 11-9.

Chris Volstad (2-1) took the win for the Bees, allowing six hits and three earned runs in 52⁄3 innings, with three strikeouts. Michael Kohn got the save, with one strikeout and no hits allowed in one inning.
