A motorcycle rider suffered life-threatening injuries Saturday in Taylorsville.

The crash happened about 6 p.m. near 4500 S. Atherton Drive (about 1100 West). A 24-year-old man riding a Suzuki motorcycle was traveling west on 4500 South.

Unified Police Department Lt. Justin Hoyal said witnesses claim the rider drove through a red light. The motorcycle then struck the front of a Honda passenger car as it was turning left, Hoyal said. The rider was propelled 30 to 40 feet in the air, Hoyal said.

An ambulance transported him to Intermountain Medical Center in critical condition. No one was hurt in the Honda.

Hoyal said the intersection could be closed for several hours Saturday night.
