Two-county search finds northeastern Utah hunter alive, well

A 72-year-old hunter who went missing in northeastern Utah's rugged Sixbit Springs area over the weekend was found alive and well late Monday morning.

The Rich County Sheriff's Office confirmed that John Wolf had been found "in excellent condition" by other hunters about 8:30 a.m., roughly 3 miles away from his campsite near Curtis Creek.

A deputy met the group, determined Wolf was all right and did not require any medical attention.

Wolf left his camp Sunday morning to hunt deer. His hunting companions said he took two bottles of water with him, but did not return for lunch as expected.

At 2:15 p.m. Sunday, his friends called 911 for help.

Cache County search and rescue personnel were dispatched and because the search area overlapped neighboring Rich County, searchers from there also joined the effort.

The search, aided by a Life Flight helicopter, was suspended at nightfall Sunday and resumed at dawn Monday with dog teams joining the effort.
