A man with severe dementia who went missing from a South Salt Lake nursing facility Sunday has been found alive and well.

"He's OK and back, safe and sound," South Salt Lake police spokesman Gary Keller said Monday.

James Wallace Patterson, 67, had been reported missing from the Little Cottonwood Rehabilitation Center at 3094 South State St. about 2 p.m. Sunday. Because of his extreme mental disabilities, an endangered missing person alert was issued.

A citizen spotted Patterson walking in the area of the Oxbow jail facility, near 1000 West and 3300 South, about 10 p.m. Sunday. SSLPD officers responded and took Patterson back to his care center.
