Letter: Where is the empathy for terrified animals?

I applaud the efforts of Collette Gillian and the Utah Animal Welfare Alliance to try and get the pig wrestling events cancelled from the Utah County Fair and the Barnyard Scramble from the Sanpete County Rodeo ("Animal chasing halted in Bluffdale, but Utah County pigs not so lucky," Paul Rolly column, Aug. 18).

Where is the empathy for these terrified animals from the organizers and participants of these events? How does the "Whatever you catch, you get to take home," animal adoption event sound like a good idea? Wouldn't adopting calm animals away from the screaming crowds be better? I just don't get it.
