Two hikers rescued from Mount Timpanogos

Crews rescued two hikers Monday from Mount Timpanogos.

About 4 a.m., Utah County deputies responded to the report of a 26-year-old woman who was experiencing a medical issue while hiking the mountain, according to a Utah County Sheriff's Office news release. She had begun her hike at 1 a.m. from the Aspen Grove trailhead when she started experiencing problems from a pre-existing medical condition about 2.8 miles in, the release adds.

A search-and-rescue team and the North Fork Fire Department arrived and found the woman about 6 a.m. Because of her condition, a medical helicopter arrived and took her to a hospital, according to the release.

While they were on the mountain, the rescue team and North Fork personnel came across another woman, in her 20s, who had collapsed. She apparently was suffering from dehydration, according to the release.

"People don't realize how much they will expire moisture from their body. [Dehydration is] one of the most common calls we get up there," said sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon. "… She just didn't have the energy to [keep hiking]."

The responders gave her fluids with electrolytes and helped her down the mountain, Cannon said.
