Three people died on Utah's roads during Labor Day weekend, with thousands of others stopped by state troopers.
Utah Highway Patrol made 4,937 traffic stops over the three-day weekend, netting 52 drunken driving arrests and 219 seatbelt violations. Speeding was the reason for 2,839 stops, troopers reported.
Three people died in two separate crashes. On Saturday, a head-on crash killed two people on U.S. Highway 89 near the Arizona border. Jay Russell, 53, was driving north about 12:55 p.m. when his Acura drifted into the southbound lanes and crashed into a Honda Civic driven by Richard Nutt, 78, troopers reported. Both men died.
On Monday, 28-year-old motorcyclist Jennifer Anderson, of Clearfield, died when her motorcycle crashed on Trappers Loop, Weber County sheriff's deputies have said.
