Posted: 3:07 PM- American Fork police arrested a 36-year-old Cedar Hills man on suspicion of cruelty to animals after allegedly feeding a dog chicken laced with 1200 mg of ibuprofen.
Police Sgt. Shauna Greening said the man apparently became upset with his neighbor's dog because it had a history of running at large and defecating on his lawn. He allegedly decided to place the ibuprofen in a chicken breast to leave the dog with a bad taste in its mouth.
The dog's owner saw the dog eating the chicken and discovered the pills. She confronted the neighbor who allegedly admitted putting the pills in the meat. She notified her husband. who confronted the neighbor and allegedly assaulted him. The 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault.
Police a veterinarian was contacted and stated the dog could have died because ibuprofen can cause kidney failure, liver problems and abdominal bleeding.
