A meet that was filled with accolades wasn't without its frightening moments for Utah and BYU Friday.
Utah, which defeated the Cougars 197.100-193.850, had a scare when sophomore Daria Bijak hyperextended her right knee on her vault landing.
She limped off the floor and into the locker room accompanied by trainers.
"That really scared me because she has had problems with her knees throughout her career," Utah coach Greg Marsden said. "I was pleasantly surprised to see her come back out of the tunnel."
Bijak finished the night with a 9.875 on the bars, a 9.9 on the beam and a 9.825 on the floor as she surprised even herself as she was able to compete on the other events.
"I tried to stick the landing, and it jut didn't work out," she said. "My warm-ups weren't that great. I should have gone for the safe vault."
BYU's problems came on the bars, where both Madeleine Johnson and Alethea Boon fell marking the start of what would be a rough night for the Cougars.
"Sometimes it's hard to figure out days when you're going to be good," BYU coach Brad Cattermole said. "I've got to remember next year we have to do something about the bars, we just can't get them tight enough here."
Jessica Duke scored a 9.85 on the bars in her final Huntsman Center appearance and Katie Kivisto earned a 9.725 on the floor.
Duke was particularly pleased with her season high because she aggravated a back injury and hasn't practiced this week.
"I knew it was going to be emotional, but it was a lot of fun too," she said.
The Utes, along with BYU and SUU will find out Monday afternoon where they are headed for the NCAA Regional Championships scheduled for April 12.
The top 36 teams make the cut for the regional championships. SUU (No. 24) and BYU (No. 28) should both make it in along with the Utes while Utah State (No. 40) likely will miss the cut.
The final rankings will be determined after the conference championships tonight.
