OREM - For the first time in school history the Utah Valley State College softball team beat the University of Utah, 3-1, as the two teams split a doubleheader at MSTAR Field on Monday.

Wolverine pitcher Alli Bramwell set a school record for wins in a season (13) in the contest.

Cherylyn McGraw hit a three-run home run in the third inning of the first game, which would prove to be the game-winner.

In game two, Utah (28-23) was down 5-3 before scoring two runners in the fifth inning. Devina Quintero hit an RBI double to score Sharee Fonoti, who walked earlier in the inning. Quintero would later score on an error to tie the game, 5-5.

Each team scored a run in the sixth to push the game to extra innings. Heidi Stocks hit her 10th homer of the season for the Wolverines (17-33) to tie the score at 6-all.

After Diana Phillips led off the eighth with a walk, Quintero doubled to send Phillips across the plate for the game-winning run.

Retiring Utah Valley State coach Steve Gardner got a cheer from the home crowd as his Wolverines defeated BYU 12-4.

UVSC (14-31-1), shut down BYU (19-29) and rode the arm of Marcus Moore throwing an effective slider on the outside corner as he went the distance in striking out eight.

The Cougars were caught stealing twice, in the fifth and seventh.

Sean McNaughton belted his 13th homer of the season with a third-inning shot to right field on an 0-2 count to bring BYU within two, 4-2. Kasey Ko turned a lineout in the third into a double play to end UVSC's third when Adam Openshaw left first, thinking it was a hit.
