The last of three men who participated in the grisly 2004 slaying of a 72-year-old woman in her Salt Lake City home has been sentenced to prison for one to 15 years. William Hugh Irish, 23, pleaded guilty in March to second-degree felony burglary in connection with breaking into the home of Donna Lou Bott the night of Sept. 28, 2004. Irish, along with accomplices Rodney Roy Renzo and Floyd Eugene Maestas, were intent on robbing her, according to charging documents. But the incident turned into a murder after Maestas brutally attacked the woman. Irish and Renzo testified at Maestas' February trial that Maestas ran directly to the sleeping woman's bedroom, where he beat, strangled, stabbed and stomped her to death. The robbers left with only a handful of change. Maestas was also convicted of breaking into the home of an 86-year-old Salt Lake City woman, where he pulled the victim's T-shirt up over her head and stole her purse on the same night Bott was killed. Maestas, 52, received the death penalty for fatally beating the woman. Third District Judge Paul Maughan ordered Irish to serve one to 15 years in the Utah State Prison, with credit for time already served. He was ordered to pay $7,979 in restitution. Irish must also serve zero to five years in prison for an unrelated case and he has a third case pending. Irish's two prison sentences will be served concurrently. Renzo, 22, was sentenced in March to one to 15 years in prison, with credit for time served. He was also ordered to pay $8,279 in restitution. - Melinda Rogers
