Posted: 11:07 AM- Police in Orem arrested a woman Wednesday who allegedly forged checks that belonged to her dead sister-in-law.

Nicki Lynn Warner, 37, of Orem, was passing checks in the name of Sharee Lana Hatch, according to police.

Hatch died July 7, 2002, in her Spanish Fork home from two shotgun blasts fired by her husband as their four children were sleeping.

Robert Steven Hatch, 35, was convicted in 2003 of the murder and sentenced to five years to life in prison.

Warner, who is Robert Steven Hatch's sister, allegedly passed a check at a business, but Lt. Doug Edwards declined to name the business, saying the case remained under investigation. Spanish Fork police also are investigating possible frauds with checks belonging to Sharee Hatch, Edwards said.

It was unknown Thursday how Warner came in possession of the murder victim's checks.

Warner was booked into Utah County jail Wednesday afternoon on suspicion of forgery, a third-degree felony. She also is being investigated for assault by a prisoner after she allegedly kicked a deputy working at the jail. She was being held without bail.
