* Oct. 26: A coach allegedly stomped a pheasant released on the field of a high school football game between American Fork and Viewmont high schools. The pheasant died. Citations were issued to the Viewmont assistant coach and two American Fork teens accused of putting the bird on the field.
* Sept. 30: A quarter horse named Crookneck was found dead in his Washington County stall, shot up to 50 times in its stomach and back with a handgun. No arrests have been made.
* Sept. 10: A Pomeranian named Ozzie was shot in front of its owner's 3-year-old daughter in West Valley City. Ozzie died nine days later. A West Valley City man faces felony and misdemeanor charges, including assault and animal cruelty.
* August: Two Orem teens allegedly shot at least nine cows with arrows. The teens said they were frustrated that their August deer hunt was a failure. The cows, which survived, lived in the Clyde Creek area near Strawberry Reservoir.
* Late July: A Morgan County animal sanctuary was shut down after animal control officers found 120 cats and 20 dogs in cramped cages. Cats were suffering from feline herpes, AIDS, leukemia, distemper, ear mites and upper respiratory infections. Thirty cats were euthanized.
* July 23: American Fork police arrested a 36-year-old Cedar Hills man on suspicion of feeding a chicken laced with 1,200 mg of ibuprofen to his neighbor's dog. The dog's owner found the pills while the dog was eating the chicken. The dog did not die.
