A traffic jam caused by the rollover of a semi-truck led to a motorcyclist's injuries in another crash on Interstate 15 Saturday.
According to Utah Highway Patrol, traffic in the southbound lanes of I-15 near Spanish Fork slowed down after a semi carrying a load of apples rolled on the exit ramp onto U.S. Highway 6 at about 12:30 p.m., blocking three lanes on the highway and closing the off ramp for more than three hours.
About an hour later, another crash occurred when a woman attempting to make a lane change to avoid the traffic caused by the first incident. UHP says the driver looked into the lane to her right to make the change and failed to see a motorcyclist slowing down behind the traffic in front of her. She struck the motorcycle and pushed him into the back of the car in front of him.
The motorcycle rider was thrown into the air and onto the roadway. UHP says he was wearing a helmet but it was torn off during the collision. He suffered a compound fracture to his right leg, some bruising and head injuries.
He was taken to Utah Valley Medical Center via helicopter but was expected to be OK. UHP said the man was in serious condition Saturday afternoon.
