A new Young Women general presidency was announced during the Saturday afternoon session of the LDS Church's 172nd General Conference.

Sister Susan W. Tanner of Provo was called and sustained as the general president of the Young Women, the organization for teenage girls.

She has traveled extensively with her husband, Steve Tanner, a professor at Brigham Young University.

Sister Julie B. Beck, who will be first counselor, has lived in Brazil and is fluent in Portuguese. Sister Elaine S. Dalton, second counselor, is a marathon runner.

The Young Women organization has about 520,000 girls between 12 and 18.

Margaret D. Nadauld, Carol B. Thomas and Sharon G. Larsen were released and received an expression of gratitude for their five years of leadership of the young women of the church.

Elder Craig C. Christensen of Provo, Elder James M. Dunn, Salt Lake City, Elder D. Rex Gerratt of Burley, Idaho, Elder Daryl H. Garn of Mesa, Ariz., and Elder Spencer V. Jones, Orem, were named as members of the Second Quorum of the Seventy and will serve a term of about six years.

Released from their service in the Second Quorum of the Seventy were Elder Richard D. Allred, Elder Athos M. Amorim, Elder L. Edward Brown, Elder Earl M. Monson and Elder Jerald L. Taylor.

Ben B. Banks was named an emeritus General Authority and released from the Presidency of the Seventy after 14 years of service. Dieter F. Uchtdorf was named to replace Banks.
